The optimisation of the glazed element of the façade was undertaken in order to incorporate solar control to limit the solar gain, reducing the size of the plant and operational energy. A target perimeter load of 110 Watts per square metre maximum cooling load allowed flexibility for the installation and efficient performance of HVAC systems. Daylight sensing controls were linked to glazing performance characteristics to ensure good levels of natural light and to also reduce operational energy. These factors work together to ensure occupant comfort and optimise the façade in relation to solar gain, radiation and glare.
