Scope

Seneca were appointed by Homes for Lambeth, Lambeth Council's House Building Company, which was set up to develop new homes on vacant and underutilised sites across the borough.

The proposals for the Carmelita Centre involve the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a new building, ranging between five and eight storeys in height, fronting onto Vauxhall Walk and Jonathan Street. The new building will provide 29 new homes and a new community centre at ground floor level.

The new homes are arranged within a mansion block. Most apartments are dual aspect and benefit from generous openings, maximising natural light and ventilation.

Each home benefits from either a loggia or a recessed balcony which is connected to the internal living area - creating an outdoor living space.

Seneca provided RIBA Stage 3 design services for mechanical and public health building services installations associated with the Jonathan Street & Carmelita Centre project. The MEP services strategy is based on an energy efficient central community ASHP system, serving heat interface units in each of the homes providing heating and hot water.
